20th John J. Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run Raises Record $60,000 for The Center

The HBA’s 20th John J. Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run raised a record $60,000 for The Center Serving Persons with Men-tal Retardation and drew a crowd of over 1,300 runners, walkers and supporters. This year’s milestone event brings the 20-year total donations to The Center to over $623,000. The Center makes independent lives possible for developmentally challenged people in the Houston community.
Held April 9th at Sam Houston Park, the event featured an 8K run, a competitive one-mile childrens’ run and a one-mile family walk. Houston Mayor Bill White was on hand to start the 8K run, along with Elizabeth Eikenburg, whose husband, the late John J. Eikenburg, established the race. The family event also featured live music by The El Orbits, emcee duties by media personality Lee Jolly, refreshments and great door prizes donated by local merchants.
This year’s commemorative event was a team effort that involved many months of planning and coordination. Race directors were Tom Stilwell of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. and Shayne Newell of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. The Fun Run Committee included Lori Aylett, J. Stephen Barrick, John Scott Black, Hon.
