FROM THE EDITOR

The Changing of the Guard

This year’s editorial board comprises many familiar faces, and several new members. Above all, the board represents a wonderfully diverse and talented group of attorneys whose intelligence is matched by their enthusiasm to produce a superior publication. This year’s associate editors (Brad Allen, Ann Zeigler, Don Rogers and Karen Conticello) are experienced members of the board who will make each issue unique and insightful; I am blessed to work with them again this year. Another blessing comes in the form of managing editor Tara Shockley, whose talent and hard work make every issue better than the last. Finally, the leadership of incoming HBA President Rocky Robinson is sure to improve every special issue.
In this, our first issue of the bar year, we offer a selection of substantive articles, including a roundtable discussion. Justice George Hanks of the First Court of Appeals has co-authored an article discussing the new requirements for expert reports in medical malpractice suits. Also, Houston litigator Sofia Adrogué has written an article explaining new trends in civil RICO cases. We cap off the issue with a roundtable discussion addressing Brown v. Board of Education and its impact on Houston schools.
This year, the board will publish special issues addressing domestic violence (September/October 2004) and adoption (November/December 2004). In addition, the board will produce our traditional volunteerism issue, which is slated for May/June 2005.
These special issues, as well as the general issues throughout this bar year, will provide information that HBA members can use in their practices and, on occasion, in their personal lives. Our goal is to provide our readers with compelling, intelligent and timely legal articles and reviews. To help us meet this goal, I ask that you please send us your comments and suggestions. After all, this is your magazine.
So the changing of the guard is complete, and a new board begins its work. The Houston Lawyer has received remarkable benefits from both the Bar’s leadership, as well as its many generous volunteers. Through the work, insight and creativity of the current board, The Houston Lawyer will continue to enrich the lives of its readers.
