A PROFILE IN PROFESSIONALISM

Gene L. Locke
Partner, Andrews Kurth LLP

Professionalism for lawyers has many faces. It requires us to be in service to our clients, our
community and our profession. The trust and faith given to lawyers require a dedication to duty to the concerns and problems of our clients. Our communities need the talents and skills of lawyers to address societal problems. Our profession needs the ideas, participation and involvement of more lawyers in matters of the Bar to advance the legal profession. Professionalism is more than simply considering how we relate to fellow lawyers. It is also how we relate to and address our client’s needs, our communities’ development and the well being of our profession. Civil and professional conduct toward each other should be the norm for lawyers. The ultimate expression of professionalism is our service to our clients, our communities and the legal profession.
